Check Into Senior Home Health Care For Your Parent

Just because your parent is aging doesn't mean that they can't still live on their own, or at least mostly independently. Your parent may need some help and some support in order to live in their own home, but with that support, they can still have a happy life at home. One of the supports that can be put in place is some senior home health care. When it comes to home health care, there are several things that it can be, depending on what your parent needs.

Companion Care

Companion care is basically what it sounds like, it is someone who comes in a few times a week to spend time with your parent. It may only be for two or three hours a day a couple of times a week, but that will mean that during those times, there is someone visiting and spending time with your parent. Companion care doesn't generally carry any medical assistance, but it is more like having someone who just comes in to take your parent out somewhere, play cards with them, talk to them, or do other similar things.

Medication Organization

Another home care option is to have someone come into the house and help with medication. One way to do that is to have someone come in on a weekly basis and organize all their medications in a medication box so that your parent can just get into the box, open the appropriate compartment, and take their meds. Organizing the meds can be difficult if your parent has a lot of medications that they have to take, if they have a hard time seeing the labels on the bottles, or have a hard time opening the bottles. It is much easier to open the appropriate compartment in a med box than it is to open several bottles every time they need to take their medication. A side benefit of having someone come in and organize your parent's medications for them is that the person can also stay on top of what refills need to happen and if your parent is taking their medication as prescribed.

If your parent still wants to live at home but needs to have some support in order to do that, one way to help is to look into senior home care services. There are a number of supports that you and your parent can check into to see what works best for them.
